I want to make some plastic rings, need liquid plastic?
I want to make some plastic rings... like this
http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.stanleydru.com/USERIMAGES/FLOWER%2520RING(1).JPG&imgrefurl=http://stanleydru.com/page7.htm&usg=__e8xlf7S53OtayID897e3lb26YlA=&h=750&w=2000&sz=298&hl=en&start=15&sig2=XbRehiHtWBta_Y8YthmHsQ&um=1&tbnid=51NGHJ8EO8AEiM:&tbnh=56&tbnw=150&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dflower%2Bplastic%2Bring%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26um%3D1&ei=xVaASrDqBZ69jAecx8XwAQ
I bought crystal resin but that just comes out clear. I need like a liquid plastic and hardener I think? Does anyone know anything that will make it plastic?
I have silicone moulds to use.
Thanks For all your help.
The flowers on those rings were probably made with a 2-part polyester resin or a 2-part epoxy resin, either of which had had a colorant added to it.
Colorants for resin can be purchased in transparent or opaque versions, though I understand that artist's oil paints (in tubes) can be used too--add White oil paint to make any oil paint color opaque).
I don't know if "crystal resin" is a brand name of a resin or other clear finish, or just a description of something, since you didn't capitalize but there are various brands of both epoxy and polyester resins sold in stores and online.
ADDED LATER: looks like Crystal Resin might be one brand of regular *epoxy* resin sold in Australia, etc, if you meant to capitalize it as a name.
Both epoxy and polyester resins come in two parts, but the epoxies are mixed one-to-one, where polyesters are mixed a few drops of one to a lot of the other ...one of the parts may be referred to as a "hardener" or "catalyst."
There's loads of info on using epoxy and polyester resins (they're often used differently) on this page of my site, including links to videos, using resins in silicone molds and in permenent "cells" or just as thick coatings, coloring resins, etc, if you're interested:

(...if you're using Crystal Resin the epoxy resin, check out the subcategories under *Epoxy Resins--hard*).
(You could also buy a 2-part *opaque* resin --which often cures white-- then paint it afterwards, and add a coat of gloss polyurethane if you want a high gloss surface.)
