I have an old house with an equally old shower. Built 1909. The shower tile grout is black if I leave it unscrubbed, brown at best with a good scrubbing. I don't want to retile. I like the original tile. Any way to get rid of the mold? Perhaps regrout?
Shojo thanks that's looking pretty good. I was not aware of this tool. Maybe you should do an ad for them ?
Go invest in a Dremel! Really not a big investment, only about $100 for the best one. Anyway, there is a Dremel attachment specifically for cutting away old, discolored grout so you can regrout! I absolutely love it! I redid my bathroom by myself in less than a day, and a friend had hers professionally done and it took three days. Here's the attachment for grout: http://www.amazon.com/Dremel-568-Grout-Removal-Kit/dp/B0000302ZX
If you do it yourself, be sure to seal your new grout very well. Here is what I used: http://www.installerstore.com/product.php?productid=382&cat=35&page=1 It is very easy to use! Wonderful results too!
The best thing about a Dremel is that you can do virtually anything with it. Since doing my grout, I've drilled holes for hanging pictures, used it as a power screwdriver, used it to cut PVC while doing a plumbing repair, used it to sand my van headlight covers to look new again, used it to refinish a small water-etched marble cutting board, did detail sanding on a desk I built for my daughter, sharpened my garden tools and lawn mower blades, and cut chicken wire to make a removable basket for my compost bin. It's an all-purpose useful tool to have around, one you'll get many years use out of after the grouting. Best $40 tool I ever bought!
