What Kind Of Apple Is Best For Baking?

My grandmother use to bake apple pies using either Granny Smith or Golden Delicious. Both are great baking apples as they stay crisp, flavorful, hold their shape, and color during the cooking process.

Granny Smith apples are good for pies turnovers and cakes.. Brauburn apples are good for pies too. Red or golden delicious apples are good for applesauce. Try out different apples with different things and see how they turn out. Happy cooking!

Cortland or Granny Smith depends on where you live. But, MacIntosh are the best for applesauce.

Any tart, crisp apple is best for pies and tarts. Granny Smith is the most popular. You could also try Golden Delicious, Rome, and Jonathan apples. I prefer juicier and sweeter ones for cakes, though.
