What Is THE BEST Baking Recipe Book For Adult Beginners?

I have bought several books, and sometimes, they confuse me because they don't outline step by step, and assume one knows how to decorate from a picture. I'd like a recommendation for a recipe AND instruction book for baked goods.

I do not agree that online recipes are for beginners....I have found so many recipes that are lacking the proper steps to be completed properly. I am an experienced cook, and baker and I just get so frustrated by online recipes, or at least a large portion of them. I am a member of allrecipes.com and still some of those are not listed correctly and or are lacking good flavor. I have tried tons of them.
I am fond of The Cake Doctor's Book....as the instructions are simple and clear and the recipes are delicious.
Betty Crockers Cookbooks are written for beginners, and the experienced and the recipes are tested and good.
As for decorating.....well I don't know what to tell you exactly. What kind of decorating are you talking about....Cake Decorating is a learned art and only practice will make for good decorating.
Baking becomes a Creative Art with practice, and knowledge. Basic Baking should not be a problem if the instructions, and the method is followed, in good books.

I was given as a Wedding Gift the most thorough and comprehensive Cooking book ever....
written by the Culinary Arts Institute The New Encyclopedia of Cooking. This book is designed for the entire learning process of cooking/baking PERIOD. It is the everything you always wanted to know about the kitchen, and all that is involved.....Awesome Book.
It is an incredibly large book but so worth the investment, and the investment of time to actually read it.

Save money by not buying a recipe book, go to http://www.allrecipes.com
They have so many recipes to chose from, and most recipes have a picture
to go with it. If you are trying to focus just on cake and cake decorating, then I would recommend you purchase a basic cake decorating book or magazine

I agree you don’t need a cookbook. There are so many online recipes, and in magazines, etc. and even if you had a cookbook what are the chances that you use all the recipes? Slim.

Honestly, if you really want to ease into baking techniques and using your equipment, you can start with cake, muffin, and brownie mixes, or get some Bisquick and mess around with all those recipes on the box. It is kind of a cheat, yes, but if you aren’t a seasoned baker, there is no shame in it. While you are learning, pay close attention to order of adding your ingredients, and the differences between stirring, folding, whipping, etc. Also, study up on what is in your mixes and why those ingredients are necessary. And learn the temperment of your oven, too!

After you are consistent with these kinds of items, then you can try baking from scratch. Try the Nestle Toll House Cookie recipe, and maybe learn a quick bread or a biscuit. When you are ready for yeast, start with a pizza crust.
