What’s The Best Type Of Baking Stone To Get?
I do alot of baking at home in the winter time. I want to start getting into baking more breads. I found a Foccacia recipe that asks that you bake the loaf on a baking stone. If I'm going to invest in buying a brand new baking stone what's the best kind to get?
Your baking stone will have to be made of clay, for best temperature retention and moisture absorption.
I got mine at Williams-Sonoma, but I hear that The Pampered Chef has the best baking stones. However, I really think that the brand doesn't matter, so long as it is made from clay. There are also options for round ones with handles on it, and large square/rectangular ones. I prefer the kind without the handles. The Stone is meant for baking only, not for serving your pizza on as well. The rectangular ones also makes it easier to bake cookies on.
Just take care of it properly, and the stone will serve you well. It's really fun, and great to have really fresh breads baked properly with a nice crust at the bottom only the stone can give
